B550 motherboard for Zen 3 & 4 Architecture CPUs

While the X570 motherboards may have a ton to offer, mid-range and low-end PC builders’ wishes have come true in the form of an all-new B550 motherboard. The B550 chipset will have a few constraints compared to X570, yet it will a perfect board for budget PC builds and also for enthusiasts with AMD Ryzen 3000-series CPUs.

Choosing the right motherboard for 3rd Gen AMD processors especially for Ryzen 3 and 5 were full of compromises. The only option which was available for users is to go for the B450 motherboards. They were not so bad though but the fact that the full potential of the CPU and GPU cannot be utilized was a bummer for the AMD fans who knew everything about the CPU they are buying.

This new B550 motherboard is constantly being compared with the X570 motherboard as it was the only motherboard that was compatible with PCIe 4.0.  Now, the B550 not only supports PCIe 4.0 but also supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 just like X570 does.

As there are tons of motherboards available for the previous generation AMD processors, this new motherboard support only 3rd AMD CPUs that too are those which are built with Zen 2 and future Zen 3 architecture. This makes this motherboard seem like a go-to option if your buying 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs and expect the full potential.

One of the major setbacks of B450 motherboards was the fact that there’s no support for PCIe 4.0 for storage. Now AMD has listened to it’s users and have added that feature but the issue is all the Gen 4 PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs in the market are are expensive as they’re subjected to have an inbuilt heatsink. There are just an handful of companies who manufacture PCIe 4.0 SSDs which are expensive as well.

Compared to B450 the B550 comes with few improvised options which turn out to be the best any user could ask for. This new motherboard comes with x16 PCIe 4.0 lanes for graphic support along with another x8/x8 PCIe 4.0 slot with official Nvidia SLI bridge support. Basically it means that this motherboard can be used for Dual-GPU configuration.

Apart from all these cool things, this motherboard will now come with USB 3.2 Gen 2 support. If you compare it with B450, it had support for just USB 3.1 Gen 1. Every renowned motherboard manufacturers who already have developed their retail units seems to provide 2 of these new generation ports, as claimed by AMD.

Here are the 6 companies that will be the first to sell these motherboards in the market. There is no confirmed information about the pricing of this new motherboard but what all the PC critics expect is that these new units might be priced somewhere around $130-$140 in the US.
