Facebook’s New Product Experimentation (NPE) Team is currently testing out an app similar to TikTok. The App is named as Collab. According to the NPE, Collab brings together creators and fans to create, watch, and mix and match original videos, ‘starting with music’.
The app is currently available on iOS as an invite-only beta. Collab is based on a fairly similar idea and features as TikTok – it offers users to sync existing videos from the platform. However, Collab offers users to sync up to three videos simultaneously instead of two.
In the launch blog, NPE Said “we’re leveraging technology to help people unlock creative superpowers by collaborating on original music videos from anywhere. In light of so many folks sheltered in place around the world, we’ve expedited this release.
Collab – How does it work
Collab works similar to TikTok, You can make different videos and sync it further with existing videos of other users in the app. However, in Collab, users are free to add and sync three videos in landscape mode. Users can sync up to three videos in Landscape mode rather than 2 videos vertically as of TikTok.
The company states “Collabs are three independent videos that are playing in sync. With the app, you can create your own arrangement by adding in your own recording or by swiping and discovering an arrangement to complete your composition. No musical experience is required”.
After creating the video, users are free to share the videos on Collab as well as other platforms directly. “Once you’ve created a collab, you can publish it for others to watch and mix and match further. You can also share yours or others’ creations to Instagram, Facebook Stories, or any other platform, with just a few taps” the company wrote.
As of now, Collab is in invite-only beta stage. Selected users receive the invites and further, they can download the app. Meanwhile, users can sign up for the waitlist on their website to get their hands on the new beta version of the app. It is to be noted that the company will be opening up the invites in batches, starting with the people from the US and Canada.
