Qualcomm has just announced a new model of their Snapdragon 855 chipset which Snapdragon 855 plus. This new SoC hasn’t packed any major feature or change, but, what the company claims is that this new Snapdragon 855+ chipset is specially designed for gaming purpose.
To take things technically, we can say that Snapdragon 855+ is an overclocked version of the existing flagship chipset Snapdragon 855. In other words, we can say that this is a compilation of missed out features of Snapdragon 855.
The usual clock speed of SD855’s Kyro CPU is 2.84 GHz whereas the clock speed of SD855+ is 2.96 GHz, which is a 4% increase in the performance with the same Kyro CPU. But what really is interesting is that the company claims that Adreno 640 GPU on SD855+ is 15% faster than the one on its predecessor.
It is now official that the upcoming Asus ROG Phone II is going to feature the latest Snapdragon 855+ chipset on it.
Enhanced AI and XR performance:
On the official press note released by Qualcomm, it seems the company is concentrating more on AI (Artificial Intelligence) and XR (Extended Reality).
What exactly is Extended Reality (XR)?
To put things in a nutshell, we can say that XR is a term which refers to the combination of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR).
It is the usual scenario that Android devices perform less efficiently than Apple devices. But SD855+ is a noticeable update as it dedicatedly re-designed to perform better in XR and AI fields.
In the upcoming days, we might expect noticeable incoming of AR games in the industry.
Snapdragon 855+ still uses the same X24 LTE modem for 4G connectivity and X55 modem of 5G connections.
So this new chipset is jam-packed with all the necessary features to improve gaming performance, enhanced AI and XR rendering and better 5G connectivity. Let’s wait until the launch of ASUS ROG phone II to get our hand on it.
Stay tuned for more updates on this.
